Banner Elk Bird Watching in High Swing
Banner Elk NC and all the HighCountry is popular with birdwatchers. From amateur photographers snapping photos of backyard Cardinals to professionals hoping to catch a Bald Eagle in flight, Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, and Grandfather Mountain are popular spots. Bald eagles make regular appearances in the area. Cardinals, Blue Jays, Wrens and other common birds can be seen every day. Photographers flock to the area in spring.
Wing’N'It is a popular place with birdwatchers. They sell books, bird seed, feeders and more. They’re also a valuable resource for information on local birds and where and when to find them.
Birds aren’t the only thing spring brings.
Hungry bears, waking from winter and looking to feed newborn cubs, are also in plentiful supply. Birdwatchers, hikers, visitors and locals should be watchful. From the back woods to back yards, the HighCountry is common-place for bear sightings in the spring and summer.
Small dogs often fall victim to bears looking for a snack. And, although it’s been a few years, people can be attacked by bears and other animals.
If you come up to visit, birdwatch or just relax, you should always be “bear” in mind your surroundings. Keep a watchful eye.
